a story from Orson Scott Card

A few months ago I stood in line for an hour and a half in order to meet Orson Scott Card, the popular mormon author. Pictured on the left is my good friend Carl and obviously, I'm on the right.

I only had one book for him to sign. It was a copy of Ender's Game that I had bought for the missionary I met in Las Vegas, Tailfeathers. He suggested I read it and because I liked it so much I bought a copy of it. Then I heard Card was coming to town and I decided a signed copy would be a great "welcome home" present. When i got to Card I told him to make it out to "Tailfeathers" and he said, "Is that his real name?"

"Yeah. Elder Jared Tailfeathers. He's part Blackfoot Indian."

"Oh! Well then, tell him this story.

Way back in my family's history I had an ancestor named Orson. As a child he was very ill and in desperation his mother found the Blackfoot tribe that lived nearby to their settlement and asked for their help. They took little Orson and put him in a healing tent and nursed him back to full health. It is that ancestor that I'm named after. Tell your friend I said 'thanks'."

I was stunned. To hear such an amazing story from such an amazing man. I have yet to give Tailfeathers his gift but I can't wait to tell him that story. It's something for the grandchildren to hear, I'll tell you that much.

This is the blog spot for us.

I (katie) thought it would be a good idea to have this up, seeing as how everyone else has one! So all three of us, Trudi, Katie, and Tristen, will be posting things to let everyone know what's going on here in Cedar.
